Macclesfield received an investment of £650,793 from the government’s Department of Transport (DfT) as part of the Summer of Cycling and Walking scheme. This investment was made to cover improvements to National Route 55, a key travel route from Macclesfield town centre to the northern suburbs, with the aim of encouraging more people to walk or cycle on their journey.
